The Facts
Felicita, in Italian, means "Great Happiness."

Felicita's owners Richard and Alice Angino bought a 52-acre abandoned farm in 1971 and over the next 36 years acquired 810 acres, including an inn and restaurant, nudist colony, and golf resort community. Over the years, hundreds of thousands of dollars and thousands of hours were lovingly invested in creating incomparable gardens. Then, at a cost of 10 million dollars, overnight lodges were built, all existing buildings and infrastructure were enlarged and refurbished, and a 5200 square feet banquet ballroom was added. Every golf hole became garden-themed and the nudist colony community house was remodeled into a California-style spa.

As a Felicita guest, you can now access 750 acres of mountain land, trails, and maintained gardens, all surrounded by miles of state parks and game lands. The resort is only 10 miles and 12 minutes from Pennsylvania's capital, Harrisburg, 1-1/2 hours from Baltimore, 2 hours from Philadelphia and 2-1/4 hours from Washington, DC. Just minutes up Fishing Creek Valley Road is Penn National Racetrack with The Hollywood Casino. You can access The Appalachian Trail just beyond.

Other activities at the resort or nearby: swimming, rock climbing, hiking mountain trails, Audubon Trail bird watching, basketball, bocci, horseshoes, fishing and hunting. Harrisburg has several large shopping malls and outlet stores, an international airport, a train depot with direct trains to major cities in all directions, plus excellent museums and points of historical interest.

Gardens are everywhere. The largest and most well known is The Italian Garden, a formal, eight-acre series of themed gardens encompassing four large terraces crowned by an amphitheater that provides breath-taking views of Blue Mountain. With stone and stucco walls, reflecting pools, fountains, statuary, pavilions and pergolas, it is the largest of the Felicita gardens. Other gardens feature plants that attract butterflies, conifers from around the world, exotic Japanese landscaping and a pond setting straight out of a Monet painting. Some of the gardens are open to guests and self-guided tours while others require an admission fee and horticultural guide.
